Living in Vigo and Hamburg by Maike

We spend one week in Vigo and could recognize many differences in culture, school system, lifestyle and of course landscape. On our third day we went to `las islas cies’, a small island group next to Vigo, which you can see below.

In the afternoon we spend our time together; we went shopping in the city, had lunch in little cafes and ate ice cream, which was way better than in the most german gelaterias.

We stayed long outside and enjoyed the sunset. That’s because school starts later in Spain than in Germany and the students usually eat with their parents at 10pm or even later. At the beginning that was quiet unusual but we got used to it.

During the morning we worked on art projects in their school, we made a big graffiti of the Erasmus logo, which shows on the left Hamburg and on the right Vigo in red and blue. Apart of that we sprayed our hands on the school yard wall and designed them individually. We made some great experiences in Vigo and it never was boring.

The same applies for them when they went to Hamburg. Of course there were some differences with the culture and lifestyle. For example breakfast, at the weekend my family and I usually eat bun with jam, honey or other things, but my exchange student didn’t knew what to eat first, because in Spain they only have hot milk and cake or biscuits for breakfast.

At the end the time we spend in Hamburg together was really cool, on our art project we made a rally through Hamburg and took a lot of pictures, made drawings and soundtracks of the river Elbe. We went to the Elphi, to the `Speicherstadt’ and many other places. We had a lot of fun and I will never forget the time we spend together.
